Abandoned Factory in San Francisco

Remains of the Washington Packing Corporation (tuna cannery)

In San Francisco, somewhere a little bit southeast of Potrero Hill, is an abandoned factory that was none other than the Washington Packing Corporation, a tunafish canning factory.  Due to a few cases of botulism in the early 1960s, the company was shut down by 1963.  More than four decades later, the remains of the site are captured within these photographs.

The factory consists of two buildings (north and south), joined by a connecting 2-level hallway.  From the looks of all the graffiti, it is more than obvious that this place has had its share of human visitors over the years.  The day that this place gets demolished will be a sad day indeed.
