Urban Exploration: Falstaff Brewery, New Orleans

Urban Exploration: Falstaff Brewery, New Orleans

At one point, Falstaff Beer had a brewery that operated in New Orleans up until the 70s.  After its closing, the brewery has been untouched for several decades.  The following pictures show a glimpse of the brewery, albeit an agonizingly unfulfilled glimpse, on a day in July.  I walked the perimeter of the large building, but there were no places to enter, and the residents of the surrounding neighborhood seemed to have nothing better to do than watch my travelling companion and I circle the building.  Nevertheless, the exterior of the building, as well as the small peek inside, was interesting enough to justify the visit.

In the parking lot. Most of the
cars there belonged to workers who spent their days in a ground-level
work area of the brewery doing something like metalwork. Perhaps this
business was merely subleting that part of the building?
The "metalworking" area. When we
passed around the part, we received curious and perhaps semi-hostile
stares of the people inside.
Another off-center view of the
front.
A view of the "Falstaff" sign.
It had definitely seen better days.
The sign, again.
Front of building. Although the
zoom on the camera was limited, it was nice to focus on the tree that
was growing out of the upper floor window. Definitely an image to stimulate
the imagination.
Close-up of tree. Also visible
are other plant protrusions. This picture alone makes the brewery rooftop
area very inviting, inspiring imaginative speculation.
Smokestack seen from rear of building.
Side of building. A driveway unfortunately
sealed.
Seen through the grating covering
the driveway. Visible are fermentation tubs. Oh, if only we had been
able to get inside!
Close-up of interior.
One last bittersweet look.
