Remains of RR bridge & Saltlands near Newark, CA

Next to the Dumbarton bridge that connects the east and west sides of the southern part of San Francisco bay, are the mysterious remains of an area that was once industrial/commercial, but is now abandoned and decayed, resulting in a high salinity wasteland that smells of brine under the harsh sun and which teases the senses and imagination.  A hike through the area might take a few hours, revealing many old structures and artifacts from another era.  Furthest away from the path leads one to the abandoned RR bridge, with its center section swung out of alignment, so as to allow ships to pass through unimpeded.  This is yet another poetic place of curious desolation, and of a stillness that is powerful.
